ALESSIO SCOPELLITI

Alessio Scopelliti is a PhD Candidate in the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies at the University of Bristol. Alessio works on his dissertation on radical right parties that have an increasing electoral success and impact in Western European party systems. His research project explores the programmatic flexibility of established radical right parties and it looks at how they actively intercept and internalize new recent fundamental socio-political changes. Alessio is also a Doctoral Fellow at CARR

ALEX THOMIN

Mapping region: Netherlands



Alex Thomin is based at the School of Behavioral Sciences at the University of Tilburg (Netherlands). Alex's research is focused on the psychological and cultural aspects of political narratives, especially of visual political narratives.




BEATRIZ BUARQUE

Mapping region: United Kingdom


Beatriz is a PhD candidate at the University of Manchester and leading investigator of MAFTI. She is investigating how and why alt-right conspiracy theories have been legitimised in digital spaces from a transdisciplinary perspective. In addition to theoretical contributions to Politics and IR, her thesis also introduces a new methodology to examine legitimation processes across different platforms, namely Multimodal Critical Affect-Discourse Analysis.



CAT TEBALDI

Mapping region: United States



Cat Tebaldi is a PhD Candidate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a visiting scholar at University College London. Her dissertation, Alt-Education, focuses on women's role in the circulation and normalization of far-right ideologies, in particular through digital popular education and homeschooling. Her other research looks at language, gender, and right wing politics. Her most recent paper, Metapolitical Seduction, looks at how submissive sexuality is used to enact far-right metapolitics.  She is also a doctoral fellow at the Centre for the Analysis of the Radical Right (CARR) and the Institute for Research on Male Supremacism (IRMS). 


POLINA ZAVERSHINSKAIA

Polina Zavershinskaia is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science, Leipzig University (Germany). She writes her PhD thesis on the topic "National Memory in Populism in Germany and Russia". In her research, she combines cultural sociological and political anthropological approaches. She focuses her research on National Memory, National Identity, Symbolic Politics, Narratives, Populism, Right-Wing, Left-Wing, Democratic Backsliding, German Politics, Russian Politics

VALERIO ALFONSO BRUNO

Mapping region: Italy



Dr. Valerio Alfonso BRUNO is a specialist on the Italian and European Radical Right and among the very first scholars who have been studying systematically the party Fratelli d’Italia. He has also been researching extensively on internal threats to the liberal world order and liberal democracies, in particular the complex relationship between populist movements and technocracy in the European Union. He is Senior Fellow at the Centre for Analysis of the Radical Right (CARR) since 2019, where he is also deputy-head of the populist research unit, Fellow at the Center for European Futures, and cultore della materia at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan, where he obtained his PhD in 2017. He also collaborates regularly with the Swiss think-tank L’Observatoire de la Finance, based in Geneva.

Dr. Bruno is currently working on a monograph on the rise of the Italian Populist Radical Right (2018-2021), with Downes and Scopelliti and has contributed to the 2021 State of Hate on Far Right Extremism, published by HOPE not Hate, Amadeu Antonio Stiftung and EXPO Stiftung.
